Obama Plays on Feelings

obama economist coverAs I’ve commented on several Obama-related blog entries today, it will be long before we seeĀ  a fundamental change in policy following the much acclaimed victory, but a permanent change in the political discourse has occurred, which will come to affect everybody in time – Americans and non-Americans, and yes, even Romanians.

Saying too much about all this as a Romanian living in Romania is somehow dishonest. Instead, I will dare copy-paste an email that I received today from a girl I worked with in New York, from whom I haven’t heard in two years. It’s touching, beware: Continue reading ‘Obama Plays on Feelings’

It’s final! Obama’s running for Presidency

It seems Blackberries all over the US are buzzing with the rumour. I was anxious this morning, but now it’s sure. NYTimes says superdelegates from South Dakota and Montana endorsed Obama, while ordinary delegates were still casting ballots. CNN – who was saying just a couple of hours ago that Hillary’s not giving up – is now saying the Hillary accepted to be Obama’s vicepresident :) In the meantime, MyDD claims it’s still not official…

Come on Hotnews… don’t disappoint me. You’re supposedly at the forefront of Romanian media… and nothing yet about Obama’s nomination…

US elections. And the winner is….

ObamaTwo weeks ago I met a friend who asked me “So, who are you voting for?” “Obama, of course!” “Me too!” It didn’t really matter we are not Americans, thus unable to vote in any way. But still, we rallied behind this guy’s plans :) And it seems it’s a matter of 20 hours or so till Obama will become the Democrats’ official proposal for the White House. Mrs. Clinton’s aides say she’s preparing her farewell speech. Uuuu… the excitement! I wonder how Romanian politicians feel about US elections…

Later edit: Hotnews tocmai au dat si ei vestea in romana. Se pare ca in seara asta Mrs. Clinton ne spune “bye-bye” si accepta – poate – propunerea de a deveni principalul artizan al reformelor Obama in sanatate.

Later later edit: It looks like Mrs Clinton is not giving up, officials say…

Political branding

I’ve discovered an excellent article on the branding of the electoral candidates in the US, and how that’s related to the country’s image abroad. With this occasion, I also remembered Salon, a great online journal I used to read while I was living abroad.

Basically, “Brand-aid” speaks about the way a good branding of the president-to-be can heal the United States’ worn and torn image abroad. I’d like to live to see the day when political campaigns in Romania will be as clever as the American one, and voters, as well as candidates, as mature as their American counterparts. This fall, I hope to read about the Romanian electoral campaign as “an ad agency review”.

Andreea, the article’s a must for your thesis! :)

See below the branding of American presidential candidates in a nutshell… My love-mark stands out in the picture :)
