June 20th was World Refugee Day. Plenty of celebrations all over the world. Cool things happened all over the world, even in Romania – where, surprisingly to some, there are quite a bunch of refugees, some living here for many years now (15000 refugees have received protection from the Romanian government since 199), and having become more attached to Romania than Romanians themselves. EVZ presented some of their stories, in a very nice Sunday article. Last week however was also the week when the European Parliament passed an highly debatable new laws on illegal migrants. Before I plunge into more substantial issues – and I promise I will – about the French Presidency of the European Union (the Council I mean, of course), which is a hot topic since Mr. Sarkozy has plenty of ambitions up on the agenda, keep your fingers crossed tomorrow. The Irish will vote, through referendum, on the Lisbon Treaty. They are the only ones who refused to pass the treaty through the parliament, and have pushed for a very risky popular vote instead. The Dutch killed a treaty once through public vote, and the Irish have a history for rejecting EU treaties as well. They are small, insular, conservative and not at all content with the common agricultural policy. Is it going to be a YES or a NO for Europe? Though one…

I came across a crisp and critical blog portal for romantic geeks and EU idealists. Just like me! And the blogs are simply adorable.
Check out the ridiculously-looking logo the French just proposed as the image of the European Commission during their presidency. Or read all about the ten profiles of Europeans. Romanians seem to be exhibitionists who tend to have themselves as best friends and want to tell and show whatever they are proud of or have an opinion about.
Others are grasshoppers, philosophers, adventurers, imposers or networkers. Stereotypes are adorable!
