			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Sometimes I wonder why I still find Romania so fascinating&#8230; It still beats me. One morning I come across some great initiatives, like the <a href="http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/2008/idds-adv-0710.html">International Development Design Summit</a> at MIT, meant to mainstream technological research and create innovative solution for the world&#8217;s poorest countries. <a href="http://tech.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/07/13/1412226&amp;from=rss">Few know</a>, but 90% of the world&#8217;s research ande development investments are targeted at serving the wealthiest 10% of the world&#8217;s population. And in Romania we can&#8217;t even speak about innovation as a key approach to development, let alone about real R&amp;D and we are failing at making even baby steps in so many other fields. And still, the very same morning I receive a <a href="http://frugaltraveler.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/07/09/spying-on-bucharests-cool-underground/index.html">brilliant blog entry</a> from the New York Times which reminds me that Romania is eclectic and fascinating, that there are dozens of things that work here and are so passee anywhere else in the world, that we are charming and have great potential. So yeah, I still adore Romania. Half instinctively, half rationally I guess.</p>

Din punctul meu de vedere, Romania trebuie mai intai sa invete gandirea strategica si sa poata raspunde intrebarii clasice de interviu &#8220;Unde te vezi peste 5, 10 si 20 de ani&#8221; inainte de a se gandi cum sa se comunice lumii. Strategie, nu branding.</p>
<p>Raspuns <a href="http://">Andrei Gheorghe</a> (da, brand-ul Gheorghe): Nevoia de brand de tara e basic. &#8220;Cum sa stie lumea cine esti, cand lumea nu stie cum sa te strige?&#8221;, &#8220;De ce nu ma iubesti, daca eu nu mi te-arat?&#8221; Brandul de tara va functiona doar daca este dat pe mana unor particulari. &#8220;Sunteti produsul propriilor voastre energii. Nu statul roman v-a adus aici&#8221;. Nu statul roman trebuie sa faca branding-ul de tara.<span id="more-74"></span></p>
<p>Raspuns <a href="http://www.iaa.ro/">Felix Tataru</a>, Presedinte <a href="http://www.iaa.ro/">IAA</a>:  Politicienii nu sunt interesati de branding de tara, motiv pentru care sectorul privat a inaugurat Coalitia Branding-ului de Tara, un document de pozitie in acest sens gasindu-se pe site-ul IAA.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.shashitharoor.com/">Shashi Tharoor</a>, Fost Vice Secretar General al ONU, scriitor: A brand will last only if a brand delivers what it promises. Country branding is done partly by the government, partly in spite of the government. The six propositions about country branding should be:</p>
<ol>
<li>Have a good idea of what you want.</li>
<li>Make sure your idea reflects reality.</li>
<li>Check existing associations. Are there ideas already associated with your country? Use them!</li>
<li>Make sure all politicians think alike. Sing the same song at the top!</li>
<li>Take unauthorized, non-governmental elements to contribute to the image.</li>
<li>Don&#8217;t try doing it cheap. Branding is expensive.</li>
</ol>
<p><a href="http://www.qmagazine.ro/modules/articles/articles_display.php?a=248">Simona Miculescu</a>, Director de Comunicare al Ministerului Afacerilor Externe, Reprezentant Permanent al Romaniei la ONU: Strategiile de branding de tara, daca au existat, nu au fost implementate. Avem nevoie de branding de tara, facut prin parteneriat public-privat.</p>
<p>Guy Burrow, Lobby &amp; Communication Expert: Most resources for country branding should come from the private sector, being carried on under a public cover. We have to insulate the process from politics, to make sure the foundation will outlast its fathers.</p>

<p>Bogdan Manea, General Manager <a href="http://www.brightness.ro/">Brightness</a>: Problema este ca, atat la nivelul statului, cat si al individului, preocuparea principala este sa produca bani acum! Suntem niste &#8220;smecherissimo&#8221; ai Europei, &#8220;ne descurcam&#8221;, iar brand-ul e la ei (strainii care ne vad), nu la noi. Interactiunea cu produsul realizeaza brand-ul.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.erudio.ro/ro/cv/cosmin_alexandru.shtml">Cosmin Alexandru</a>, <a href="http://www.brandivia.com/">Brandivia</a> si <a href="http://www.erudio.ro/ro/">Erudio</a>: A brand is what a brand does. Sa reusim mai intai noi insine sa ne uitam unii la altii cu admiratie. Pentru a face branding de tara, e nevoie de un parteneriat media, pentru ca presa ne face sa ne simtim prost cu noi insine.</p>
<p>Corina Vintan, PR Specialist: Branding-ul de tara sufera de 4 insuficiente.</p>
<ol>
<li>Nu exista vointa politica.</li>
<li>Nu exista o legislatie buna, ci una care, prin prisma legii achizitiilor publice, te forteaza sa te bazezi pe preturile cele mai mici.</li>
<li>Nu exista oameni de calitate in institutiile publice.</li>
<li>Nu exista solidaritate sociala.</li>
</ol>
<p>All in all, IAA a facut o treaba buna. Un eveniment fain, atat prin prisma curajului si sinceritatii invitatilor, cat mai ales pentru ca a adus in fata noastra un adevarat &#8220;intelectual al vremii noastre&#8221;. Mai multe despre Shashi Tharoor in alt post. Sper doar ca IAA sa nu fii folosit aceasta masa rotunda ca eveniment de PR sau de lobby pentru actori pentru care nu branding-ul de tara este prioritar.  Asteptam cu nerabdare documentul de pozitie promis <a href="http://www.iaa.ro/Articole/Stiri/Iaa-romania-declanseaza-coalitia-brandingul-de-tara/1563.html">aici</a>!</p>
